Private Jetty Construction – Built to Last for Generations

Private Jetty Construction – Built to Last for Generations

A traditional stone-caisson (stenkista) jetty is the most solid choice for waterfront homes in Stockholm and the archipelago – stone-filled caissons are sunk to the bed and become the stable foundation the pier rests on. Bodo builds piers in pressure-treated, seawater-resistant timber with stainless-steel fasteners and structures, from a few metres up to 15+ metres, along the shore and quay or further out into the water. From SEK 200,000 with up to a 30-year warranty – request a quote and we will design your jetty.

From foundation and drawings to permits, boat lift and price

Stone-Caisson Jetty Construction – Everything You Need to Know

We are an experienced dock builder in Stockholm working with traditional stone-caisson (stenkista) technique. The pier is carried either by stone-filled caissons on the bed, or as a shore-anchored structure suspended over the water – the choice depends on your bed conditions, water depth and how you intend to use the jetty.

We build fixed piers in seawater-resistant timber with stainless-steel detailing, and we also repair floating piers (we do not, however, manufacture floating piers). Below we cover technique, materials, price, permits and the areas we serve.

Looking to build a jetty in Stockholm? We build everything from classic stone-caisson jetties to a sturdy boat jetty for your boat – tailored to your shoreline, water depth and needs.

  1. 01 What is a stone-caisson jetty?

A stone-caisson jetty rests on sunk caissons filled with stone, which form the foundation on the lake, sea or river bed. Alternatively, we build a shore-anchored structure suspended over the water. Both deliver a stable, fixed pier that withstands ice, wind and waves year after year.

  2. 02 Benefits and lifespan – up to 30-year warranty

We use pressure-treated timber in a seawater-resistant class together with stainless-steel fasteners and structures. The result is a jetty that resists saltwater and the passage of time – with up to a 30-year warranty. A solid investment that often increases the value of a waterfront property.

  3. 03 How we build – process, drawings and dimensions

We start with a project and a drawing showing the jetty's footprint in the water and how far it extends onto land – not detailed structural calculations. We then install the stone caissons or the shore-anchored structure. We build lengths from a few metres up to 15+ metres, tailored to the bed, water depth and your needs.

  4. 04 Pier types and materials – timber and stainless steel

The jetty is built in pressure-treated, seawater-resistant timber with screws, fittings and load-bearing structures in stainless steel. We build along the shore and quay or further out into the lake, sea or river to suit your needs. We also repair existing floating piers, but do not manufacture new ones.

  5. 05 Boat house and boat lift

We are happy to complement the jetty with a boat house and a boat lift – a platform with water-level regulation that raises and lowers your boat in and out of the water. A boat lift costs approximately SEK 300,000 plus installation. We also help you plan winter storage, whether the boat is hauled out or kept on the lift.

  6. 06 Price – from SEK 200,000

A stone-caisson jetty starts from SEK 200,000. The price depends on materials, size, terrain and the conditions of the lake or sea bed. As every shoreline is unique, we always provide a firm price after a site visit – request a quote and we will calculate your project.

  7. 07 Building permit and shoreline protection

A jetty usually requires a project with drawings, a building permit (bygglov) from the municipality, and shoreline protection exemption (strandskyddsdispens) – much like the permit for a house. The drawing shows the jetty's footprint in the water and how far it reaches onto land. We guide you through the entire permit process.

  8. 08 Areas we serve

We build jetties on Lidingö and in Djursholm, Ekerö, Vaxholm, Saltsjöbaden, Nacka and Värmdö – as well as across all of Stockholm and the Stockholm archipelago. Among other projects, we have built piers on Djurö in the Värmdö archipelago and on Lidingö, including island homes where the jetty is sometimes the only way in.

FAQS

Frequently asked questions about jetty construction

  • How much does a stone-caisson jetty cost?

Prices start from SEK 200,000 and depend on materials, size, terrain and the conditions of the lake or sea bed. As every plot and bed is unique, we provide an exact price after a site visit. Request a quote and we will calculate your project.
  • Do I need a drawing for the jetty?

Yes, a project and a drawing are needed for the permit. The drawing shows the jetty's footprint in the water and how far it extends onto land – not detailed structural calculations. We prepare the documentation for you.
  • What dimensions can you build?

We build jetties in lengths from a few metres up to 15+ metres. The pier can sit along the shore and quay or extend further out into the water. Dimensions are tailored to the bed, water depth and how you intend to use it.
  • Do I need a building permit and shoreline exemption?

Usually yes. A jetty normally requires a building permit (bygglov) from the municipality and a shoreline protection exemption (strandskyddsdispens), similar to building a house. We guide you through the entire application and permit process.
  • How long does it take to build a jetty?

From a few weeks up to a few months. The timeline depends on bed conditions, water depth, the size of the pier, site access, and whether materials and stone must be shipped by boat out to an island.
  • How long does a stone-caisson jetty last?

We build in pressure-treated, seawater-resistant timber with stainless-steel fasteners and structures. This gives a very long lifespan and up to a 30-year warranty.
  • What do I do with the boat in winter?

You can either haul the boat out or keep it resting on the boat lift, a platform with water-level regulation that raises and lowers the boat. A boat lift costs approximately SEK 300,000 plus installation, and we also build boat houses. We help you plan winter storage.
